Mario A. Rodriguez began his career in student services in 2004 as a student senator, resident assistant, and work study student at his university career center while an undergrad. He earned his bachelor’s degree in international business from University of La Verne in 2007. In 2010, he received his master’s degree from Florida International University in higher education administration. His favorite career experience (before Cal LAW!) has been with Semester at Sea, where he worked abroad on a floating university that travelled to 12 countries in one semester.
Between 2004-2019, Mario served at 4-year universities, private and public, in California, Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin and Maryland, as well as abroad. He worked in residence life, multicultural affairs, outreach financial aid, student support services, career services and campus life. In 2019, he transitioned to working at Los Rios Community College District, where he served as Student Support Specialist. His cites his identities as Latinx, first generation college student, LGBTQ+ and mix status family as among the reasons for his passion for helping students of color, Latinx, LGBTQ+ and undocumented students through finding community and acceptance, while navigating the challenges of higher education. His passion for self-exploration continues via multiple leadership roles, programs, and services to help support underserved populations.
When he is not working, he is traveling, enjoying his toddler niece and current President University of La Verne Latinx Alumni Mentors and Professional Association.
